Serious injuries and even death can be the result of rollerblading without using precautions.

When rollerblading always wear a helmet. There are helmets that are specifically designed for rollerblading. The correct protective gear that you should equip is knee pads, elbow pads, and pads for your wrists and hands as well as your helmet. When purchasing a pair of rollerblades, think of them as normal shoes. You need to get a pair that fits you properly and are comfortable.

Also when purchasing your rollerblades ask the person at the store that you purchased them from for any information on rollerblading properly and safely.

To avoid painful bruises as a result of trips or fall, most employees at sports stores advise to rollerblade on smooth safe surfaces, such as grass or gym mat.

You can try rollerblading on harder surfaces after you have a feel for wearing your rollerblades and are capable of maintaining your balance. Even then you still need to wear the proper safety gear.

Always try to avoid situations where someone could get hurt including you. Think of rollerblading kind of like driving a car. Always rollerblade on the right side and make a pass on the left. Always treat other rollerbladers with respect. Give them a signal when attempting to make a pass.

Check all rollerblading equipment on a regular basis to ensure there is nothing that can cause an injury. Tighten the wheels if they are loose. If one or more of the wheels on your rollerblades is worn, then it or they need to be replaced before rollerblading. Also purchase new brakes if the ones on your rollerblades are worn out.

Warming up and stretching out your body is a good exercise to do before you head out rollerblading. Remember to cool down when ending your rollerblading routine.
